Define Scheduling Resource
Explanation
This activity is used to define the maintenance
employees of a particular company as resources and to enter relevant
scheduling data for each resource. It is necessary to set up an employee as a
resource if you want to schedule the employee by using the Scheduling
Engine. Each resource must be connected to a valid resource type which is
defined in the Basic Data for Scheduling/Resource Type tab. If
scheduling data is not defined for a resource it will inherit the data from the
connected resource type, for example, the start and end locations of a resource
type's work shift and scheduling costs will be assigned to the resource. For the
start and end locations the geo-coordinates of the map positions will also be
transferred to the Scheduling Engine. The scheduling data for a resource can be
changed at any time. Active flag can be used to disable or enable a resource.
Only the active resources are used for scheduling.
The resources will be scheduled using a valid dataset. The Scheduling Engine will
then return a scheduled plan. For more information, refer to the
activities Define Scheduling Datasets and Define Scheduling Broadcast.
Prerequisites
- The company must have been defined.
- Scheduling resource types must have been defined.
- In order to be able to define a resource specific address ID
start/address ID end, there must exist addresses for the employee.
- To connect a travel profile, it must be defined in the
Scheduling/Basic Data/Travel Profile window
- To connect shift utilization, it must be defined in the
Scheduling/Basic Data/Scheduling Basic Data/Shift Utilization window
System Effects
As a result of this activity, the employees of a
company that are to be scheduled will be set up
with relevant scheduling data and can be included in the scheduling.

Procedure
- Open the Basic Data for Scheduling window.
- Click the Resource tab.
- Verify that the correct company is in use. If not,
right-click and click Change Company to change the company.
- Create a new record (F5).
- In the Employee ID field, enter the
identity of the employee that is to be scheduled. Use the List of Values to select a valid value.
- In the Resource Type field, enter the valid
resource type. Use the List of Values to select a valid value.
- In the Address ID Start field, enter or
update the
start location when logging into the shift. Use the List of Values to select
a valid value.
- In the Address ID End field, enter or
update the end
location when logging off the shift. Use the List of Values to select a
valid value.
- In the Scheduling Cost per Hour field, enter
or update the cost
per hour for the resource type.
- In the Scheduling Cost per Overtime Hour field,
enter or update the cost per hour for the resource type when working overtime.
- In the Scheduling Cost per Km field, enter
or update the
cost per kilometer for the resource type.
- In the Max Travel Time (Hours) field, enter or
update the
maximum travel time the resource type is allowed to travel from his or her
start location. The maximum distance is measured in hours.
- In the Max Travel To (Hours) field, enter or
update the
maximum unpaid travel value in hours at the start of the shift.
- In the Max Travel From (Hours) field, enter
or update the
maximum unpaid travel value in hours at the end of the shift.
- In the Out of Region Multiplier field, enter the multiplier that
is to be applied to the value of an activity, for instance a work order,
which is to be done by a resource outside his or her region. A value of 0
means that activities cannot be done outside the region. A value of 1 means
that activities can freely be done outside the region and are as likely to
be chosen as those activities within the region. The regions the resource
should have access to are defined in the Scheduling Basic
Data/Resource Region tab.
- In the Speed Factor field, enter the proportion of calculated
travel time is to be used by the Scheduling Engine. If a value of 0.5 is
entered, the Scheduling Engine will assume that half its estimated travel
time is the actual travel time. If a value of 2 is entered, the Scheduling
Engine will assume twice its estimated travel time is the actual travel
time.
- In the Shift Utilization field, enter the shift utilization id
that should be used for resource.
- In the Utilization (%) field, enter or update as a percentage the
maximum amount of time in a shift that the resource is to be scheduled.
- If a resource logs on within the time defined in Snap Time Hours Per
Shift field , the scheduler assumes that the resource is logging on to
the shift. Snap time is used in combination with the resource logging on and
the commit rules of the Schedule Dispatch Service (SDS).
- In the Overtime Hours per Shift field, enter the maximum number
of overtime hours that can be allocated per shift for the resource.
- Select True from the drop down for Flexible Lunch field, if lunches for the resource
should be transferred as flexible to the Scheduling Engine.
- Select True from the drop down for Flexible Break field,
if breaks for the resource
should be transferred as flexible to the Scheduling Engine.
- In the Travel Profile ID field, enter the travel profile that
should be used by the resource. Use the List of Values to select a valid value.
- If the resource should be used for scheduling then the Active check box should
be selected.
- Save the information (F12).
