Assign Resource to Activity
Explanation
Perform this activity to add a resource to an activity. The main purpose of
this is to control who will work on a certain activity and how much work is to be
done, with more detail. The values given here will be used for performing an approximate
capacity planning across one or more projects.
You can assign several resources to one activity. It is important that the resources
you connect have cost and capacity defined for the right period according to your
project. The resource cost and capacity to use is defined by the early start and
finish dates of the activity. The cost and hours for the resources will be reported to
the project according to the posting control setup.
You can also assign the same resource ID on several lines by using the resource
criteria.
Prerequisites
- Resource groups with capacity and cost should be defined.
- Resource criteria should be defined to be able to use another level
of planning other than only resource.
System Effects
- The activity will be included in the rough capacity planning.
- Planned hours and planned cost will be updated for the resource line. If
the cost of the resource or postings are changed later it is possible to use
the Update Cost menu option and update the change.

Procedure
- Open the Project
Navigator window and select the appropriate activity from the graphical
structure navigator.
- Go to the Resource tab and click on
the Resource Planning
tab.
- Create a new record.
- Select a Resource ID from the List of Values.
- If you have set up resource criteria
select the appropriate criteria. It's possible to use % for all.
- If you are interfacing with Primavera Project Planner, you can select the
required duration type in the Duration Type column.
- Enter a value in the Planned Hours column.
- Enter a text in the Note field if needed.
- Save the record.
