Set Up Alternate Component Substitution Sequence
Explanation
Use this activity to define the alternate components for a part. You can have
as many alternate components as you wish, but you must define the order in which
the alternate components should be used. When backflushing in Production
Schedule you can use them as first choice or as backup choice. This means you
can define the alternates to be used either before the primary component, after
the primary component, or as a last-resort choice, etc. In Shop Order, the usage
of alternate component is an active choice by the material planner.
Prerequisites
The part for which you want to register alternate components must be registered in the
inventory part register. The part you want to use as an alternate component must be
registered in the inventory part register.
System Effects
As a result of this activity, the system uses the registered components in place of the
standard components in different structures. This causes the backflush process to use a
different set of components for a temporary period of time, for a certain quantity, or for
particular structures.
