The transfer to another location is performed in two steps: creation and execution of transport task. The first step is used for informing the driver of the truck or the stacker that goods (single handled parts or pallets) need to be transferred to another location. The second step is performed by the driver or any other relevant system user whenever the goods are physically moved to the new location.
At receipt, it is possible to use transport tasks for single handled parts. When moving parts within an inventory, transport tasks can be used for all kinds of goods.
Pallet handled parts can be moved using transport tasks, both at receipt and when moving within an inventory. However, to be able to handle pallets, you will have to convert your purchased parts into pallet handled parts.
In order to convert the parts into pallet handled parts, the purchase order line has to be received into a pallet delivery location. Whenever the order line is received, the purchase parts are automatically converted. The number of pallets created depends on the quantity stated in the Std Putaway Qty field in the Inventory Part/Misc Part Info tab. For example, if the quantity in the field is 10 and the quantity of parts received is 125, 13 pallets are created (12 pallets with 10 pieces on each and 1 pallet with 5 pieces).
The result of the conversion is displayed in Handle Pallets on Delivery Location. When the pallets are created and eventually modified, they should be received into any of the following inventory location types: pallet location, pallet deep, or pallet buffer. The pallet location is used for storage of single pallets, while the two remaining locations could store an unlimited quantity of pallets, depending on the location group.
If a pallet is moved to a non-pallet location, e.g., a picking location, the pallet ID will be removed and the parts will be handled as single parts. Pallets on a pallet delivery or pallet arrival location cannot be moved directly to a non-pallet location.
A transport task for the relevant goods must have been created.
Single handled parts are received into any of the inventory location types: picking, floor stock, shipment and production line.
Pallets are received into any of three inventory location types: pallet location, pallet deep, and pallet buffer. If the pallets are received into the first two location types, the pallets can be reserved and delivered to a customer. The latter location type is only used as a source of refill when needed.
