Enter Standard Names for Parts

Explanation

Use this activity to enter a standard name for a part. This optional task is to be performed by a system administrator or equivalent person.

The functionality has been designed to facilitate a uniform denomination of parts in all languages used.

Prerequisites

This activity has the following prerequisites:

• ISO languages must be defined.

System Effects

As a result of this activity:

• The standard name will appear in the List of Values at the registration of standard name for a part in the Part window.
• If the part is used in a context other than the usual context and the language is set, the standard name in this language is used if it is connected to the part.

Procedure

To create a standard name:

1. Open the Part Basic Data window and click the Standard Names tab.
2. Create a new record.
3. In the Standard Name field, enter the name. The standard name ID is generated automatically when you save the record.
4. Create a new line in the lower part of the window.
5. In the Language Code field, select the language code from the List of Values or enter the code.
6. In the Standard Name field, enter the standard name in the requested language.
7. To enter standard names in other languages, repeat steps 4-6 for every additional language.
8. Save the changes.

To connect the standard name to a part in the part catalog:

1. Open the Part window and click the General tab.
2. Populate or query to select the part to which you want to connect the standard name.
3. In the Standard Name ID field, select the name from the List of Values or enter a new one.
4. Save the changes.
