Enter and Maintain Putaway Zones

Explanation

This activity is used to enter and maintain putaway zones. They can be entered for normal as well as for pallet-handled parts. Putaway zones are used as the priority rule when scanning the inventory for suitable/available locations when performing the inventory putaway process. Putaway zones can be defined for a specific warehouse, bay, row, tier or bin within a site, for a specific group of parts within a site and/or for a single inventory part. The following options are available:

(Commodity group 2 is used in the inventory part to identify putaway zones).

Putaway zones entered for Site, Asset Class - Frequency Class or Commodity Group - Frequency Class are then inherited to the connected inventory parts where additional zones with ranking can be added or removed. By entering putaway zones per group of parts, it is possible to avoid unnecessary setup for parts sharing the same putaway zones while still being able to add exceptions for specific parts. For example there could be putaway zones for buffer inventory that are common for a number of parts entered for a group while a specific pick location is entered for that specific part.

When setting up a putaway zone from a remote warehouse, a remote warehouse assortment with connected parts must be active. Only remote warehouse assortment connected inventory parts will inherit the remote warehouse putaway zone. Additional zones with ranking can be added or removed for the inventory parts.  

Note that putaway zones can be defined in a more flexible way by using, for example, the percent sign (%) and semicolon (;) to define a zone that contains, for example, a number of bays. This can be convenient when there is a need to use the maximum number of bins for a part over a greater area than, for example, just one bay. This does not apply when setting up a putaway zone from a remote warehouse as the whole remote warehouse will be set as one putaway zone.

Procedure

Enter putaway zones as basic data:

  1. Open the Putaway Zones Basic Data window.
  2. Search for your site.
  3. Click the tab for which you wish to create the putaway zone.
  4. Create a new record and save your changes.

Define a putaway zone from a remote warehouse:

  1. Open the Warehouse Navigator window.
  2. Search for your site.
  3. Select one of your remote warehouses.
  4. Click the Remote Warehouse tab and then the General tab.
  5. Select the Appear as Putaway Zone check box.  
  6. Enter an appropriate value in the Ranking field.  
  7. Save your changes.

Define putaway zones directly on the inventory part:

  1. Open the Inventory Part window and search for your inventory part.
  2. Click the Putaway Zones tab.
  3. In the Inventory Part Values tab, create a new record and save your changes.

Remove a putaway zone from an inventory part:

  1. Open the Inventory Part window and search for your inventory part.
  2. Click the Putaway Zones tab.
  3. Click the Operative Values tab.
  4. Select the record, right-click and then click Remove Putaway Zone.

Note: The Removed check box is selected for the relevant record in the Inventory Part Values tab.
