Enter Main Groups

Explanation

Use this activity to organize or classify engineering parts, together with part class and standard names. This optional task is to be performed by a system administrator or equivalent person.

A main group is the most rough classification of engineering parts. Examples of main groups are IT material or office equipment.

Main groups allow you to query for all parts categorized in a group. For example, you can query for all groups used in a report. We advise you to use the categorizing possibilities in order to build up a hierarchical structure of parts instead of a totally flat structure using only standard names.

• The main group can be connected to engineering parts.
• Part classes are available in the Engineering Part Revision/Engineering Part window.
• Main groups can be used as a search parameter when performing queries.

Procedure

1. Open the Product Basic Data window and click the Main Groups tab.
2. Create a new record.
3. In the Part Main Group field, enter one alphanumeric character for the ID.
4. In the Description field, enter the description.
5. Save the changes.
