Reserve Serial Number

Explanation

This activity is used to reserve a serial number for the related top part when a project specific shop order is created. The serial number gives you the tool to keep track of one specific instance of a part.

Prerequisites

• The part should exist in the Part window.
• The part should be a project planned item with a structure.
• The Inventory Serial Tracking check box should be selected.
• The After Delivery Serial Tracking checkbox should be selected.

System Effects

• The part gains a serial number.

Procedure

1. Open the Project Product window and query for the required project. Alternatively, open the Project Item Navigator window and query for the required part structure.
2. Click on the Project Product/Items tab and select the part you wish to reserve a serial number. It is usually the top part in the structure. In the Project Item Navigator click on the Consist Of tab.
3. Right-click, point to Serials and select the Reserve Serial menu option.
4. Type the serial number for the part in the dialog box.
5. Click OK.
