Calculate Capability Indices One or More Data Points

Explanation

Use this activity to calculate capability indices for a given time period for Control Plan lines in all Control Plans where the lines have the Capability Indices check box selected. You can narrow your search by using the Query dialog box to query and/or sort by a number of different options.

Prerequisites

At least one Control Plan must exist, and at least two Analyses for a Control Plan line in this Control Plan must be in status Complete. The Capability Indices check box must also be selected for the Control Plan line.

System Effects

As a result of this activity, capability indices are calculated for a given time period for Control Plan lines in all Control Plans where the lines have the Capability Indices check box selected. The mean, standard deviation, and parts per million (ppm) values are also calculated and displayed.

Procedure

  1. Open the Calculate Capability Indices window.
  2. Right-click in the header area and then click Calculate.
  3. Use the Query dialog box to select the conditions of the calculation. Click OK.
  4. Choose a time period by selecting dates in the From and To fields in the Capability Indices Calculate dialog. Type a comment, if necessary.
  5. To have this calculation run as a background job, select the Send to Background Job checkbox. If you have chosen to query on any calculated fields (such as Mean, Standard Deviation, Inner Cp, Inner Cpk, Outer Cpk, Inner Cp ppm, Inner Cpk ppm, Outer Cp ppm, or Outer Cpk ppm), it is recommended that you run it as a background job because the calculation can be time consuming.
  6. Click OK.
  7. View the calculated values for Inner Cp, Inner Cpk, Outer Cp, and Outer Cpk, Inner Cp ppm, Inner Cpk ppm, Outer Cp ppm, Outer Cpk ppm, Mean, and Standard Deviation.
  8. You can query and/or sort  again to narrow your data.
  9. If you want to view the measurement data used for the calculations, select the specific row in the table and right-click and then click Sample Data. This opens the Sample Data - Capability Indices window. The measurement data used for the calculations is displayed in the Result column.
  10. Once you have generated a calculation, you can query and/or sort on that Calculation No
  11. To view this information later, populate the Calculated Capability Indices window. Select the required record, right-click and then click Sample Data. This will display the Sample Data - Capability Indices window. To open the Calculated Capability Indices window, select the required record, right-click and then click Calculation Details.
