Enter Characteristics

Explanation

Use this activity to link the purchase part to a characteristic template, as well as to specify a corresponding attribute value for the characteristic code. It is possible to add, update, and/or delete characteristics. Purchase parts can have variable characteristic codes and discrete characteristic codes connected to them. Also templates which have variable characteristic codes and/or discrete characteristic codes can be connected to purchase parts.

Prerequisites

• The characteristic codes must be entered in the Part Characteristic window.
• The characteristic templates must be entered in the Part Characteristic Template window.

System Effects

The characteristics of the purchase part are entered. It is possible to query for the purchase part using the defined characteristics.

Procedure

1. In the Purchase Part window, query for the purchase part record.
2. Click the Characteristics tab.
3. Create a new record.
4. Enter the characteristic template in the characteristic header, or use the List of Values. The description is automatically filled in once this is done.
5. The characteristic codes corresponding to the template are automatically filled in. However, you can modify them by adding or deleting characteristic code lines.
6. To add a new characteristic code, enter the short code in the Characteristic Code field, or use the List of Values. The system displays the characteristic description and indicates whether the attribute value should be alphanumeric or numeric.
7. Save your lines.
8. Enter an attribute value for each characteristic code for the purchase part. Make sure that the values correspond to the specified type, i.e., whether it is alphanumeric or numeric, as determined in the Part Characteristic window.
9. Save your entry.
