The Master Scheduling and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) processes create recommendations for addressing future material needs. Master Scheduling produces Master Schedule Receipts while MRP creates MRP Planned Orders. Each of these applications can be configured such that the supply recommendations are automatically converted into formal types of planned supply. Both manufactured and purchased parts can be handled in this way, with planning outputs ranging from requisitions to discrete orders to repetitive schedules.
Control over the type of planning output depends on the setup for the planned part. The most important setup is done in Inventory Part, where parts are identified as either manufactured or purchased. The planning Supply Code is then used to determine which type of output is created as a result of a planning run.
The output from planning can be used to feed various production and purchasing systems including Production Schedules and Kanban.
