Define Tool ID
Explanation
This activity is used to to define a new tool ID. Tool IDs can be linked to routings
to specify particular tools to use.
Prerequisites
This activity has the following prerequisites:
- A tool type must be defined in
Manufacturing Standard Basic Data/Manufacturing Tool Type.
System Effects
As a result of this activity:
- A new tool ID record is created.
- The system also creates a tool instance with the same name as the tool ID.
- This tool ID is available in the List of Values, and can be linked to
routings in the
Routings/Routing Tools tab.
Note: The tool IDs that are defined to be inactive will not be displayed in the List of Values.

Procedure
- Open the Manufacturing Tool window.
- Click New.
- In the Tool ID field, enter a tool ID for the tool you want to create.
- In the Tool Description field, enter a description of the
tool identifier.
- If required, change the site in the Site field or click List
to select an available site from the List of Values.
- In the Tool Type field, connect the tool ID to a tool type. Click
List
to
select an available tool type from the List of Values.
- In the Calendar ID field, specify a calendar for the tool ID.
Click List to select a calendar from the List of Values. The site calendar appears as the default.
- In the Schedule Capacity list, select whether the type of schedule capacity used is
finite or infinite.
- If there is another tool that can be used in place of the defined tool,
enter the ID in the Alternate Tool ID field. By default, the
Alternate Tool Description field will be populated with the description
of the tool identifier.
- In the Calibration Control field, select whether or not the tool requires
calibration. If it requires calibration, you must enter a value greater than
zero in the Time Between Calibrations field.
- In the State list, select Active.
- Save the record.
