A serial equipment object, in contrast to a functional object, is intended to be moved around in the facility. A serial object can for example be an electrical motor, or anything else suitable for relocation into different positions in the facility. When moving an object, you move it to a different object structure within the facility, i.e., you move it from the superior object to another one.
The serial object information is stored in the Serial Object in IFS/Equipment. The history of changes, e.g., the movements of a serial object is saved in the Serial Object History, and all information is kept in one place throughout the entire range of IFS Applications, as a means of facilitating life cycle management solutions about serials. A serial object can have different statuses depending on where it is located (in facility, in inventory, under transportation, etc). The status of the serial object when moved within the facility will not change, and will continue be set as In Facility.
