Create Inventory Part from Engineering Part
Explanation
Use this activity to create an inventory part record from an engineering part
record in one or more sites. This can be done either as a step in the
Create
New
Engineering Part wizard while creating a new engineering part, or by
using an existing engineering part in the Part/Engineering/Part
Detail tab or the
Engineering Parts window.
Prerequisites
If you want to use the same planning data parameters as an existing inventory
part, a template part must be established in the
Inventory
Basic Data/Template Parts tab.

The selected engineering part is established as an inventory part at one or
more sites.

Create New Inventory Part
Procedure
To create an inventory part record while creating a new engineering part in
the
Create New Engineering Part wizard:
- Open the
Engineering Parts window, and
right-click, then click Create New Part. This will open the
Create
New Engineering Part wizard.
- Enter values for the engineering part in the fields of the first wizard
window. Note that only the Part Description field is a required
field.
- Select the Create Inventory check box, then click Next.
- The
Create New Inventory Part wizard window will be
displayed, with the part number (if any) and the part description
automatically filled in. All sites that your user ID is linked to will be
displayed in the table area.
- In the Add to Inventory Part field, select the check box for each
site for which you want to create an inventory part. If you want to select
all sites, click Select All.
- Optionally, if you want to use the same planning data parameters as an
existing inventory part at the specified site, you can select from among the
defined template parts at each site. With the cursor in the Copy From
Template Site, click List to select from the available values.
The remaining fields on that row will be automatically filled in.
- Repeat step 6 for any additional sites for which you want to planning data
parameters from a template part.
- Click Next, and continue through the wizard steps, entering any
necessary values in the fields. This option is enabled once all mandatory
fields have been completed
- To have the system create the inventory part, you must click Finish
in the final wizard window. If you click Cancel in any step of the
wizard, this will prevent any of the information entered in any of the steps
from being added to the system.
To create an inventory part record at one or more sites for an existing
engineering part record from the
Engineering Parts
window:
- Open the
Engineering Parts window, and populate
or query for the specific part record.
- If the Inventory Part Exists check box is selected, this means that
the part exists on at least one site as an inventory part. You can still
choose to create the part as an inventory part on additional sites.
- Select the part record for which you want to create an inventory part
record.
- Right-click, then click Create Inventory Part. This will open the
Establish
As Inventory Part on Site window, with the part number and part
description displayed. The available sites will also be displayed in the
table area.
- In the Add to Inventory Part field, select the check box for each
site for which you want to create an inventory part. If you want to select
all sites, click Select All.
- Optionally, if you want to use the same planning data parameters as an
existing inventory part at the specified site, you can select from among the
defined template parts at each site. Enter the site in the Template Site
field, or click List to select from the available values.
The remaining fields on that row will be automatically filled in.
- Repeat step 6 for any additional sites for which you want to planning data
parameters from a template part.
- Click OK to have the system create the inventory part record(s).
To create an inventory part record at one or more sites for an existing
engineering part record from the Part/Engineering/Part Detail
tab:
- Open the Part window, and query for the specific
part record.
- Click the
Engineering tab. Part information will be
displayed in the Part Detail tab.
- Right-click, then click Create Inventory Part.
- This will open the Establish As Inventory Part on Site
window, with the part number and part description displayed. The available
sites will also be displayed in the table area.
- In the Add to Inventory Part field, select the check box for each
site for which you want to create an inventory part. If you want to select
all sites, click Select All.
- Optionally, if you want to use the same planning data parameters as an
existing inventory part at the specified site, you can select from among the
defined template parts at each site. Enter the site in the Template Site
field, or click List to select from the available values.
