Project Serials

In IFS/Project Delivery you are able to create serials for project items belonging to a project delivery structure. When a serial number is set on a project item, a serial record is created. You can add detailed information about the project serial to this record.

When the serial part is assembled, the top part in the structure must have a reserved serial number connected. All substructure items that are also serialized must have a serial number assigned.

If you have selected the After Delivery Serial Tracking and Inventory Serial Tracking check boxes in the item's Part Catalog record, the following apply to the item:

1. The serial number will be updated when project-specific purchase orders are received into inventory.
2. The serial number will be updated for standard planned items when the top item's shop order is received into inventory.
3. The serial numbers must have been reserved for the top item when a project-specific shop order is created.

If the After Delivery Serial Tracking check box is selected and the Inventory Serial Tracking check box is not selected, the following applies:

• The serial numbers can be updated for the project items in the Project Product/Items or Project Item/Consist Of tabs by right-clicking, pointing to Serials, and then clicking Set Serial after the project item is issued from inventory. These items cannot have a serial number while still in inventory.

Workflow

Creating Serials

Project items with assigned serial numbers will automatically appear in the Project Item/Serial Info tab. You can associate a serial number to only items having the After Delivery Serial Tracking flag set in Part Catalog. This flag indicates whether a part is a serial type or not.

To create the serials, open the appropriate records in the Project Product/Items or Project Item/Consist Of tabs, right-click, point to Serials, and then click either Reserve Serial or Set Serial.

Modifying Serials

If you want to update serial specific data you can update the serial data in the Project Item Navigator/Serial Info or Project Item/Serial Info tabs. You can only view data in the Part Serial/General tab.

Removing Serials

To delete a serial part from the structure, remove the associated project item in the Project Product/Items tab. An existing document surveys and spare part lists for the serial part are automatically deleted along with the serial.

To remove the reservation for the serial number, right-click, point to Serials, and then click either Unreserve Serial or Reset Serial in the Project Product/Items or Project Item/Consist Of tabs.
