Define Dependencies

Explanation

This activity is used to enter dependencies between work tasks within one work order. This is useful if the work tasks are to be executed in a specific order. The relationships between the work tasks are defined by selecting a work task and define its predecessor(s). The dependency type Finish to Start declares that the work task should be completed before the work of its predecessor(s) can start.

If a scheduling engine is used, the dependency information (along with other parameters) are used to determine the order of the planned schedule and allocations of the tasks. Dependencies between work tasks are used as a hard constraint in scheduling to get the correct order of executing the work tasks.

Prerequisites

Before defining dependencies, the following must have been completed:

System Effects

As a result of this activity, dependencies between work tasks are defined. The dependencies  are used as constraints if a scheduling engine is used for planning and allocations.
