Change Part Revision

Explanation

This activity is used to change the part revision of a serial. The part revision of a serial can change as a result of embodying a modification on the serial or due to configuration changes on the serial.

If you need to change the part revision of a serial that is installed in a structure, the new part revision must have been defined as a valid alternate for the given structure position or for the part in the template. If the serial is not installed in a structure, the different configurations (templates) for the part will be used to determine the new part revision. A change of part revision can lead to a change of template for the serial. In such cases, one or all of the following will occur as part of this activity:

• If the structure of the serial, for which the part revision is to be changed, has serials that are valid in the new template, these serials need to be mapped to the relevant structure position in the new template.
• If the new template has structure positions that are not present in the serial structure, these structure positions will be added automatically to the serial structure as empty positions when this activity is performed. (Empty positions refer to the structure positions where expected serials or parts are missing from the serial structure.)
• If empty positions exist in the serial structure but do not exist in the new template, these empty positions will be removed automatically.

Prerequisites   

• If the serial is installed in a structure, the new revision must be a valid template alternate or position alternate. For more information refer to the activities Define Alternate Parts in Template and Define Alternate Parts per Position.
• If the serial is not installed in a structure, a template must exist for the new serial part revision. For more information refer to the activity Build Template Structure.

System Effects

• The serial is defined with a new part revision.
• The operational condition of the serial is set to Non Operational. You can now manually verify that the configuration of the serial is updated, so that, you can use the serial.
• If a new structure position is added to the template as a result of a part revision change, an empty structure position will be added automatically to the serial structure as well.
• Empty structure positions in the serial structure that are not present in the new template revision will be removed automatically.
• The due calculation for interval maintenance, modifications, post maintenance checks, life limited parts and fault deferrals will run automatically for the serial to calculate due dates and values.

Procedure

1. Open the Serial Structure Information window and query (F3) for your serial structure.
2. If you need to move down the structure, click the Consist Of tab, select the row that contains the part, right-click, and then click Next Level until the required serial part is displayed in the header of the window.
3. Right-click anywhere in the header and then click Change Part Revision. The Change Part Revision assistant will open.
4. In the New Revision field, enter the new part revision. Click List to select a valid value.
5. Optionally, you can define a manufacturer part number for the new revision in the New Manu. Part No field. Click List to select a valid value.
6. If you want to assign a maintenance program to the new part revision, enter a value in the Maint Program ID field. Click List to select a valid value.
7. If a maintenance group is required for the new part revision, enter a value in the Maint Group field. Click List to select a value.
8. If you want to disconnect the serial from the current maintenance program, select the Disconnect Serial from Maint Program check box. Note: This check box will only be available when valid maintenance programs do not exist for the new part revision.
9. Click Next.
10. The second step of the assistant opens if the new part revision is to be created for a serial that is not installed in a structure. Here you can change the template structure for your new part revision.
11. In the Template Part No field, click List to select the template part for the serial structure template you want. Similarly, select the appropriate revision and structure position for this template part in the Templ Rev and Structure Position fields.
12. Click Next.
13. In the third step of the assistant, you can update the child parts which are defined in the structure of your new part revision.
14. In the Structure Position field, set the correct structure position for the selected template structure. Click List to select the value.
15. Click Next.
16. In the fourth step of the assistant, you can select the access groups that will have access to the new part revision of the serial.
17. The Implement For check box is selected by default. You need to clear this check box for the access groups that will not have access to the new part revision.
18. Click Finish.
