Reserve Material

Explanation

Use this activity to automate reservation of materials in inventory. Reservations can be done manually or automatically and this document described the latter. How the reservation should be processed is controlled by a setting, called Reserve at Reciept. The Reserve at Reciept setting is available on shop order plans and purchase order plans. These are the possible options for the Reserve at Reciept setting:

• Reserve to Parent Order Component – The material on a component is reserved to parent item's shop order plan/purchase order plan.
• Do not Reserve – The stock remains in the project inventory for Project MRP and standard inventory for MRP until it is reserved and issued.
• Reserve to Shipment – The received material is reserved to the shipment plan.

Prerequisites

Project activity should have been released and planning items should have been created.

The following is valid when material on a component is reserved to parent item's shop order plan:

• The component should have been added with shop order plans or purchase order plans.
• Auto reservation setting on components shop order plan and purchase order plan, should have been set to Reserve to Parent Order Component option.

The following is valid when material on a component is reserved to parent item's purchase order plan:

• The component should have been added with purchase order plans.
• Auto reservation setting on components purchase plan, should have been set to Reserve to Parent Order Component option.

The following is valid when reserving material to a shipment plan:

• A shipment plan should have been created for the item together with either a shop order plan or a purchase order plan.
• Auto reservation setting, on the item's shop order plan and purchase order plan, should have been set to Reserve to Shipment option.

System Effects

The reserved material will be automatically added in planning items Reserved Quantity field, once the material is received into the inventory. The material can be received once the supply request is created and shop order/purchase order is fully processed:

The reserved quantity fields on planning items are found in the following places:

• Shop Order Plan/Shop Order tab and the Reserved Quantity field.
• Purchase Order Plan/Purchase Components and the Reserved Quantity field.
• Shipment Plan/General tab and the Reserved Quantity field.

Procedure

Reserving material on a component to a parent shop order plan:

1. Open the Project Deliverables Navigator window and populate it with values.
2. Expand the structure and navigate to an item's component, and select Shop Order Plan or Purchase Order Plan.
3. Set Auto Reservation to Reserve to Parent Order Component.
4. Save the changes.

Reserving material on a component to parent purchase order plan:

1. Open the Project Deliverables Navigator window and populate it with values.
2. Expand the structure and navigate to an item's component, and select Purchase Order Plan.
3. Set Auto Reservation to Reserve to Parent Order Component.
4. Save the changes.

Reserve material to a shipment plan:

1. Open the Project Deliverables Navigator window and populate it with values.
2. Expand the structure and navigate to an item's Shop Order Plan or Purchase Order Plan. (Also make sure that the item has a shipment plan.)
3. Set Auto Reservation to Reserve To Shipment.
4. Save the changes.
