Grant Supervision Through Position Assignment
Explanation
This activity is used to assign employee a supervising position that has
access rights defined for it.
Depending on your intentions, this activity can be performed in two ways:
- If you want to manage access from the supervisor's perspective, follow
the first procedure. Use it to manage supervision from the perspective of a
single supervisor, assigning him control over many organization units.
- If you want to manage access from the organization's perspective, follow
the second procedure. Use it to manage supervision from the perspective of
an organization unit, assigning to it multiple supervisors.
Prerequisites
In order to perform this activity:
- Position based access has to be defined in the Position - Access
Setup
window.
- An employee or a person has to be registered in the system.
- An organization structure has to be defined in the Graphical
Organization Structure window.
System Effects
As a result of this activity:
- Employee will be assigned a position.
- Employee will receive supervision rights defined for the position.

Procedure
To manage supervision form the supervisor's perspective:
- Open the Employee window.
- Search or populate to find the relevant employee.
- Navigate through the Employment tab, then
Assignments tab, to the Organization tab.
- Add a new record.
- In the Organization Code field, enter the identifier of the
organization unit to which you want to assign the employee. You can use the
list of values.
- In the Position ID field, enter the identifier of the supervising
position you want to assign to the employee. You can use the list of values.
- If Primary check box is selected, this will become employee's
primary position.
Note: Every employee can have only one primary position assigned.
- In the Assignment Type field, you can specify the intended amount
of involvement that the employee will have in the organization unit, e.g., full time, part time.
- You can leave Role and Role Name fields blank.
- In the Valid From and Valid To fields, enter the validity
period for the assignment.
- Save the information.
Note: This supervision setting extends only to the supervisor's
organization unit. If you want to extend this supervision over subordinate
organization units, go to the Supervisor - Access Setup window, locate
the access definition, select the Include Subordinates check box, and
save the change.
To manage supervision from the organization unit's perspective:
- Open the Graphical Organization Structure window.
- Search or populate to find the relevant organization structure.
- On the Organization Structure tab, select the organization
unit from the graphical object structure. This is the unit to which you will
assign employees.
- Navigate to the Assigned Employees tab and add a new
record.
- In the Emp ID field, enter the identifier of an employee that you
want to assign to the organization unit. You can use the list of values.
- In the Position ID field, enter the identifier of the supervising
position you want to assign to the employee. You can use the list of values.
- If Primary check box is selected, this will become employee's
primary position.
Note: Every employee can have only one primary position assigned.
