Define Referenced Plan Items

Explanation

Use this activity to define the referenced plan lines for the operational plan. A referenced plan line is an item in the operational plan that is connected to a certain project and/or its sub projects and/or activities. This means that when a referenced plan line is defined, with a project connected to it, the line is seen as having planned start and finish set by the start and finish dates for that project.

It is mandatory to enter a line number and a project ID on each referenced plan line. However, there are also fields to specify a line even more by connecting it to a certain sub-project range or even an activity range. By adding a sub-project or activity range to a line it will get the planned start and finish set by the start and finish dates on the sub project or activity range instead. This means that each referenced plan line will have a planned start and planned finish value that are fetched from the start and finish dates set on the connected project, sub project or activity.

If IFS/Maintenance Planning Board (MPB) is used, the planned start and planned finish values on the referenced plan lines are viewable in maintenance planning board. The planned start value is set as the earliest value in time of early start and late start on the project, sub project or activity. The planned finish value is set as the latest value in time of early finish and late finish on the project, sub project or activity.

When only entering a project ID on the referenced plan line the sub project and activity range fields will automatically get the value "%". This means that the full sub-project range and the full activity range under this project will be included in determining planned start and planned finish. The same logic will apply if values in the project ID and the sub project range are entered, then the activity range field will get the value "%". This means all the activities under the sub project will be included in determining planned start and planned finish for the referenced plan line.
