The Manage Master Configuration process is made up of three sub processes which covers the definition of serialized parts and the creation and maintenance of template structures in Fleet and Asset Management. Following is a description of each sub process:
Before the template structures can be built and serials can be created the serial parts must be defined with additional information, such as, vehicle information, operational parameters, life limit definition and manufacturer information. This sub process handles the necessary activities for serialized parts.
This sub process handles the definition of a template structure before the template structure is used as a basis for creating serial structures. Template structures allow you to uniquely identify each position in the structure of a given template part revision as well as to determine the allowed configuration for serial structures.
You can choose to create the template structure manually or by importing a product structure, copying information from an existing template structure or converting an existing sub structure. When importing a product structure note that the product structure is copied and the two structures are maintained separately.
The template structure must be activated before it can be used to create serial structures.
This sub process handles the activities that can be performed on a template structure once it is set to the Active status. Changes such as the introduction of new alternates, extending or reducing existing configurations and expanding or reducing minimum configurations can occur during the life cycle for the different material types. It is likely that modifications will result in changes to alternates and/or to the configuration.
