Import Product Structure

Explanation

This activity is used to handle creation of a serial structure template by copying an engineering part structure from IFS/PDM-Configuration. When you are going to build a new template structure which has some similarities with an existing engineering part structure, importing an existing structure is an effective way to get started with the new structure. A serial structure template will be created for each level in the engineering part structure, and the different serial structure templates will be linked together to hold the entire configuration.

Prerequisites

System Effects

As a result of this activity, one or more new template structures will exist in the Preliminary status.

Procedure

  1. Open the Serial Structure Template window
  2. Create or query for the part to be on top of the new template structure
  3. If you want to import only a structure branch, click on the Consist Of tab, select a part to break down to, right-click and then click Next Level. Repeat this step if you need to go further down the structure.
  4. When you have the part to be on top of the new structure branch in the window's header, right-click on the window's header and then click Import Product Structure.
  5. The Import Product Structure dialog box appears.
  6. Specify the top part revision of the engineering part structure to import from.
  7. Specify a prefix and/or suffix for the structure position.
  8. Specify the starting structure position from where the automatic generation of structure positions will commence.
  9. To make sure that new positions become equal in length to other positions in the template structure, you can specify a length for the position. The system will automatically fill up with zeros (0) to match this length.
  10. By selecting the check box Split Product Structure into several Templates, each level of the part structure which contains sub structures will be created as a template.
  11. By selecting the check box Expand quantities larger than 1 on lowest level, all serial tracking parts without children in the part structure will be split into instances with unique positions. If this check box is not selected the quantity will be kept.
  12. By selecting the check box Copy Functions, product functions connected to the part structure will be copied.
  13. Click OK and the selected part structure will be imported.

Note: This activity can also be executed from the Template Structure Navigator window. The procedures is the same as described above.
