Reserve Lot Batch Numbers

Explanation

Use this activity to reserve lot/batch numbers for a specific shop order or shop order requisition. When reserved to a shop order requisition, the lot/batch numbers are transferred to the shop order created from the requisition. The reserved lot/batch numbers are used when the system receives parts into inventory.

Note: If the shop order is for a part that allows more than one batch (or lot), you will typically want to decide whether it is more important for you to specify the number of batches or the quantity per batch. Once you specify a value in one of these fields, the system will calculate the other value. You can make manual changes to the value calculated by the system, but the system will not adjust the other field for the changes. After you enter the information, the system creates the appropriate set of lot/batch reservations records.

Prerequisites

This activity requires that the part to be manufactured has the Lot/Batch Tracking set to Lot Tracking or Order Based in the Part window. Order based lot/batch numbers can only be reserved to shop orders.

System Effects

As a result of this activity, the system reserves lot/batch numbers for a specific shop order. This reserved lot/batch numbers are used when receiving the parts into inventory.

As a result of this activity, the system reserves lot/batch numbers for a specific shop order or shop order requisition. Order based lot/batch numbers will be generated following the standard syntax of [Order No]-[Release No]-[Sequence No] plus an index number. Thus a shop order with order no XB1001, release no 1, sequence no 1 would have a generated lot/batch number XB1001-1-1-1. If the part being manufactured allows more than one lot per order, you can reserve multiple lot/batches; this will increment the last number shown in the generated example to give you XB1001-1-1-2, XB1001-1-1-3 etc.

When the part is set to use order-based lot-tracking with only one lot per production order allowed, the shop order will automatically reserve a single lot/batch number for the entire quantity on the shop order. If the part allows multiple lots per order, lot/batch numbers must be manually generated.
