Simulate Scheduling Operations, Orders or Order Structures Using Drag-and-Drop or Insert

Explanation

This activity is used to manually simulate operations using the drag-and-drop or insert functions. This will not affect the actual schedules as simulated results is not saved back to the database. Simulation is only for analytical purposes. Planners can run what if type analysis by creating scheduling objects inside Advance Planning Board simulation mode, Maintenance Planning Board simulation mode or in Simulation client.

Prerequisites

To run simulations using Advance Planning Board,  it should be in simulation mode.

To run simulations using Maintenance Planning Board, it should be in simulation mode.

To run simulations using Simulation client, it should be up and running.

System Effects

As a result of this activity the system simulates operations. Simulated results can be saved back to files ( *.fsi or .*fsw ) for later simulation work. Snapshots can be taken for performing comparative analysis before and after scheduling.

Procedure

To run simulations in any of the scheduling clients, its is required that the clients are running in simulation mode, or you need to start the simulation client.

• If the Simulation Client is not already running, open the Simulation Client dialog box. In the Site field, specify the site for which you want to simulate operations. Use List to select from available sites. Click OK. This action starts the simulation client.
• If you are in the Scheduling Client, go to File/Set Application Run Mode/Switch to Simulation Mode. This will convert the scheduling client to behave as a simulation client.
• If you are in the Advanced Planning Board and not in simulation mode already, go to File/Set Application Run Mode/Switch to Simulation Mode. This will make the Advance Planning Board to run in the simulation mode.
• If you are in the Maintenance Planning Board and not in the simulation mode already, go to File/Set Application Run Mode/Switch to Simulation Mode. This will make the Maintenance Planning Board to run in the simulation mode.

1. Use DRAG-AND-DROP functionality or INSERT functionality to simulate operations of your choice and investigate various scheduling situations.
2. If you use right click and move (DRAG-AND-DROP), then the operations will be dragged and drop in to a new time slot, and will be rescheduled to occupy that slot if resource and relationship constraints are met ( will not reschedule existing operations to make space).
3. If you place the curser on the object (an individual operation or order structure) , click-and hold and then start dragging , the curser will turn to a small triangle with letters INS  on it. This means you are performing INSERT scheduling. In this case you can release curser at the time interval where you want your operations or order structures to be. But in this case, if there are any other operations in the same time slot, they will get rescheduled unlike DRAG-AND-DROP scheduling to create space for the operations or order structures that you are rescheduling.
4. you can crate any master data or activity within the simulation mode. For example if you need to create a new calendar, go to Master Data in the navigator (in simulation mode), then right click on Work Time Calendars, and then select New Child. You will be able to create a new calendar object and use it for simulation purposes. Similarly you are able to create any objects within simulation mode and use them for simulations along with existing objects.
5. Once you complete the simulation you can Click File/Save to save the results to a file.
