Activity Transfer to Project Inventory
Explanation
This activity is used to transfer handling units or inventory parts
to project inventory. You
can transfer handling units or parts from standard inventory or from one project inventory to
another. You can also use this activity to transfer
handling units or parts between
activities of the same project.
- Transfers from standard inventory to project inventory can be done when a project
will use the material that exists in standard
inventory, but where the material needs to be handled as project-specific
inventory within the project. This may be, for example,
when a project has excess material that can be used in another project, either
during the project's execution or when the project is about to be completed.
- Transfers from one project inventory to another may be, for example, when a
project has excess material that can be used in another project, either during
the project's execution or when the project is about to be completed.
- Transfers from one activity to another within the same
project may be necessary, to ensure that costs are properly allocated. It is
possible to issue parts on behalf of an activity, e.g., activity1, although the
part had been initially procured on behalf of another activity, and
activity2, the part belongs to the same project. In such instances, unless you transfer the
handling units or
parts from one activity to the other before issuing, the
actual cost for the issue of parts for activity1, will go on to activity2.
All of the above types of transfer can be initiated from the
Handling Unit/Structure/Handling Units tab, the
Handling Unit In Stock window and the
Inventory Part In Stock window, and carried out in the
Transfer to Project Inventory
dialog box.
This activity also provides for the creation and
printing of new bar codes. Changes in project belonging of inventory parts
will
affect how the parts are identified using barcodes.
It is possible to enter notes that will be saved on the resulting inventory
transactions.
Prerequisites
- You must select the appropriate handling units
or parts in
standard inventory or project inventory of a different project activity.
- The transferred handling units or parts cannot be in transit,
reserved, or frozen for counting.
- The selected handling unit or part cannot be
on a inventory location of type Arrival or
Quality Assurance.
- The transferred handling units or parts cannot belong to a rotable
pool.
System Effects
- The handling units or parts will be transferred to project inventory (from standard inventory or
the project inventory of a different project activity).
- The quantity on-hand in project inventory would be increased, and
will be displayed in the windows that show the inventory on-hand information, such as
the Inventory Part In Stock
or the Handling Units in Stock window.
- If you select the Print Barcodes check box, the standard report for
printing barcodes will be created.
- If notes are entered, they will be saved on each of the inventory
transactions that are created.
