Plan Warehouse Tasks

Explanation

Once the initial setup of the Warehousing application is done, there is no absolute need for any manager to be involved in the prioritization and assignment of every single warehouse task. If the setup is done correctly, meaning that the manager has wisely distributed task types and location groups among the workers, the system will perform the correct prioritization of the best possible task to start next for every worker, as long as the work load remains constant in volume and characteristics. Problems occur if the characteristic of the work load changes, if the resource availability situation changes (e.g., sick leave or vacations), or if a change of strategy concerning prioritization of task type has been decided. If something happens that changes the conditions, then there is an immediate need to make the correct adaptations.

The planner might need ways of looking at the current and future work load and resource availability balance, as well as ways of making quick changes to the system in order to regain a convenient work load or resource availability balance. This includes both very radical mass changes and small ad hoc changes to both basic data and the current set of open warehouse tasks.

Prerequisites

System Effects

If the planner makes any changes to the warehouse work or to the warehouse task, this will affect the work load in some way. He might change the time that a worker spends on a specific task type so that the available resources increase for this task type. He could change the requested date finished for a task in order to replan it in time.

The changes that affect the work load or resource situation are displayed in Workload per Location Group or in Workload per Location Group Graph.
