Create SSCC for Handling Unit

Explanation

This activity is used to create a Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC) for a handling unit of a shipment or a shop order. The created SSCC will be displayed on the SSCC field in the handling unit row.

The SSCC is printed on the handling unit label, handling unit content label and shipment handling unit label. It is also possible to send the SSCC using the EDI message service.            

Prerequisites

• At least one handling unit type needs to be defined.
• When creating SSCC automatically for a handling unit, or the entire shipment, the company prefixes and extension digits for each handling unit type should be pre-defined. Also the check box for Generate SSCC should, in some scenarios, be set for the handling units that should have SSCC created. 

System Effects

As a result of this activity, an SSCC is created for a handling unit.

Procedure

From Handling Unit window:

1. Open the Handling Unit window and search for the required handling unit ID.
2. Click the Handling Unit Structure tab.
3. On the structure, select the specific level for which you want to create SSCC.
4. In the Handling Units tab, select the Generate SSCC check box for the required handling unit records. They could be set via a packing instruction.
5. On the structure, select the level (including sub-level) for which you want to create the SSCC. Right-click and then click Create SSCC. 
6. An SSCC is created for all the handling units on the selected level  and sub-levels that had the Generate SSCC check box selected.

An alternative way to generate SSCC regardless of the value on the Generate SSCC check box,

1. Open the Handling Unit window and search for the required handling unit ID.
2. In the Handling Units tab, select the required handling unit records, right-click and then click Create This SSCC. 
3. An SSCC is created for the selected handling units regardless of the setting on the Generate SSCC check box.

From Handling Unit in Stock window:

1. Open the Handling Unit in Stock window and search for the required handling unit ID(s).
2. Select the required handling unit record(s), right-click and then click Create This SSCC. 
3. An SSCC is created for the selected handling units regardless of the setting on the Generate SSCC check box.

From Shipment window:

1. Open the Shipment window and search for the required shipment ID.
2. Click the Handling Unit Structure tab.
3. On the structure, select the specific level for which you want to create SSCC (either the entire shipment or the required handling unit).
4. In the Handling Units tab, select the Generate SSCC check box for the required handling unit records.
5. On the structure, select the level for which you want to create the SSCC. Right-click and then click Create SSCC. 
6. An SSCC is created for all the handling units on the selected level that had the Generate SSCC check box selected.

An alternative way to generate SSCC regardless of the value on the Generate SSCC check box,

1. Open the Shipment window and search for the required shipment ID.
2. Click the Handling Unit Structure tab.
3. On the structure, select the specific level for which you want to create SSCC (either the entire shipment or the required handling unit).
4. In the Handling Units tab, select the required handling unit records, right-click and then click Create This SSCC. 
5. An SSCC is created for the selected handling units.

From Shop Order and Shop Floor Workbench windows:

1. Open the Shop Order or Shop Floor Workbench window.
2. Search for a shop order.
3. Click the Handling Unit Structure tab.
4. On the structure, select the specific level for which you want to create SSCC (either the entire shop order or the required handling unit), right-click and then click Create SSCC. 
5. An SSCC is created for all the handling units on the selected level that had the Generate SSCC check box selected.

From Production Schedule by Line windows:

1. Open the Production Schedule by Line window.
2. Search for a production line.
3. Right-click and select Production Receipt.
4. Press OK, the Attach Parts to Handling Units for Receipt dialog opens.
5. Select the Create SSCC(s) check box. 
6. Press OK.

From Production Schedule by Line Part windows:

1. Open the Production Schedule by Line Part window.
2. Search for a part no.
3. Right-click and select Production Receipt.
4. Press OK, the Attach Parts to Handling Units for Receipt dialog opens.
5. Select the Create SSCC(s) check box. 
6. Press OK.
