Use this activity to define serial ranges for the serial numbers that are to be assigned to the selected modification revision, when the status of the modification is set to Active.
There are three parameters that define how a serial number range is specified. These parameters can be updated in the Configuration Basic Data/Object Property tab. The following table shows all the default parameter values:
Parameter | Value | Description |
FROM_TO_SERIAL_RANGE | .. | Specifies a from/to serial number range. Example: Enter the value sn3..sn9 to specify serial numbers sn3, sn4, sn5, sn6, sn7, sn8 and sn9. |
SEP_SERIAL_RANGE | ; | Separator for separating several single serial numbers. Example: Enter the value sn1;sn12;sn17 to specify three specific serial numbers. |
ALL_SERIAL_RANGE | % | All serial numbers for the given part number. |
Therefore, according to the default parameter values described in the above table, the serial number range can be defined using any of the following formats:
The definition of a serial number range can be performed manually by generating numerical serial numbers or using relevant menu options to add, change or remove a serial range (for more information refer the online help file Add, Remove or Change Serial Number Range.)
The value you enter in the Serial No Range field is not validated.
All serial number ranges are regarded as alphanumeric characters. Consequently, unusual results may be generated when you create a serial range consisting of numeric characters only. To prevent such results, you have the option of defining a serial number range for numerical serial numbers - Generate Numeric Serial Range.
As a result of this activity, serials are assigned to the selected modification revision.
