This activity is used to copy product structure from an existing part number to a product item within the estimate tree structure. It is possible to select a part number which is for a manufactured or a purchased part. If buildable structure and/or routing revision/alternates (just for manufactured parts) exist at the defined required date, then the default revision/alternate combination is automatically suggested.
For a manufactured part, it is possible to define a manufacturing lead time. If a manufacturing lead time is defined for the selected part number, then it is not considered when proposing a possible default structure and routing rev/alt. This means that if there is a lead time defined, then it is not subtracted from the required date. You can update the selected part number and the defaulted revision/alternate to copy. It is only possible to select alternate for the top part number to copy and not its sub-parts. When generating the estimate structure for the sub-items by using the copy product structure functionality, default revision/alternate combination is used for structure and routing.
If no buildable structure and/or routing revision/alternates exist, then the revision/alternate fields are left undefined. It is then mandatory to select among tentative revision/alternates. For manufactured parts it is also possible to select among prototype revisions since they are always in status Tentative. If a prototype structure and/or routing revision is selected in the copy process for a manufactured part, then the type prototype considered for manufactured parts at lower levels as far as possible. When no prototype structure or routing revision exists, then instead the manufactured structure and/or routing revision used. It is not possible to complete the procedures of the Copy Product Structure and Apply Cost dialog box until the revision/alternates are defined for the structure and/or routing.
In the copy process apply cost on the estimate tree structure can also be applied. There is a group box, Apply Cost. If the Part Cost is selected, Cost Set field is enabled. It is then mandatory to enter or select a cost set. When a cost set is selected then the order based calculation is in conformity with the interim order, executed for the version handled top item quantity. If there is a part in the copied structure with a standard lot size defined, it is assumed to be a make to stock part and unit cost calculation is applied for the structure below the specific part. If a standard lot size is not defined for the parts, they are treated as make to order parts and order cost calculation are applied for those parts. This means that it is possible to use a part costs calculation as the foundation of the cost build-up for an estimate top item.
However applying cost is only possible, if the part
type to copy from is equal to the part type to copy to. For example; it is not
possible to apply cost if the structure for a manufactured part is to be copied
to a purchased part. This is not allowed since different cost templates are used
for manufactured- and purchased part in the part cost calculation.
If you select Do Not Apply Costs option only the components and operations
are copied.
Note: This functionality can be used to copy a deviating product structure to an existing part. The part is then considered as modified and a new revision and/or alternate of the part no is created when part data is generated based on the estimate tree structure. It is also possible to overwrite an existing revision.
