Translate HR Basic Data

Explanation

This activity is used to translate HR basic data. You can enter or view translations by opening the HR Basic Data Translation window from each window where basic data is defined. You can open this window using the View mode in order to view the translations that may already be entered for the selected basic data. Otherwise, you can open the window using the Create mode in order to enter new translations. You can also directly open the HR Basic Data Translation window from the navigator and search for the basic data to view or enter new translations.

Translations can be entered for the following basic data values:

  1. Reasons for leaving defined in the Reasons for Leaving window.
  2. Competency groups defined in the Competencies window.
  3. Competency element names in the Competencies  window.
  4. Competency levels in the Qualification Level Template window.
  5. Employee categories defined in the Employee Category window.
  6. Employment types defined in the Employment Types window.
  7. Employee status codes defined in the Employee Status Codes window.
  8. Assignment types defined in the Assignment Types window.
  9. Job grades defined in the Job Grades windows.

Translations can be entered for the following data descriptions:

  1. Names of wage codes defined in the Wage Codes window.
  2. Descriptions of work time balances defined in the Balance Definition window.
  3. Descriptions of templates defined in the Employee Selection Templates window.
  4. Descriptions of absence groups and absence types defined in the Absence Configuration window.
  5. Descriptions of relationship types defined in the Relationship Type window.
  6. Descriptions of personal document types defined in the Personal Document Type window.
  7. Names of work time agreements defined in the Employment Agreement window.
  8. Descriptions of property field values defined in the Property Field Values window.
  9. Names of organization units defined in the Organization Units window.
  10. Names of organization levels defined in the Organization Levels window.
  11. Titles of position codes defined in the Positions window.
  12. Titles of jobs defined in the Job window.
  13. Education level names defined in the Education Levels window.
  14. Education field names defined in the Education Fields widnow.
  15. License groups defined in the License window.
  16. License names defined in the License window.
  17. Industry areas defined in the Industry Areas window.

Prerequisites

In order to perform this activity, basic data is required to be already entered in the relevant basic data window.

System Effects

If the Use Translation check box is selected in the HR Basic Data Translation window, the translated values will display in the system using the translated text. If this check box is not selected, the same values will display in the system using the default text.

Procedure

Perform the following procedure to enter new translations (Wage Codes basic data window is used as an example);

  1. Open the Wage Codes window.
  2. Populate or query to find the wage code value for which you require to enter new translations.
  3. Select the value, right-click and click Translation/Create Translations to open the HR Basic Data Translation window.
  4. The Attribute Key field shows the key of the wage code value.
  5. The Default Text field shows the description of the value reflected in the language in which it was created (global language).
  6. In the Language Code field, specify the language to which you want to translate the basic data value description.
  7. In the Translated Text field, enter the new translation for the specified language.
  8. In the header of the window, the Use Translation check box is selected by default to indicate that the translated text will display in the system instead of the default text when the relevant language is used. If you clear this check box, the default text will display in the system instead of the translated text.
  9. Save the information.

    Note: You can open any of the basic data windows which allow translations (the possible basic data are listed in the Explanation section of this activity) and translate the data as described in the procedure above.

Perform the following procedure to view already entered translations;

  1. Open the Wage Codes window and find the required values as you did in the previous procedure.
  2. Select one or more values for which you want to view existing translations, right-click and click Translation/View Translations.
  3. The HR Basic Data Translation window will open and the translations already entered for the selected values will be listed in the table of the window.

Perform the following procedure to enter translations using the HR Basic Data Translation window in the application navigator;

  1. Open the HR Basic Data Translation window.
  2. Populate or query to find the required value for the Module and Logical Unit fields. This will show the module and the logical unit in which the basic data values are created i.e. the logical unit of the basic data window you require.
    In the table of the window, the value (in the selected logical unit) for which translations have already been created will be listed.
  3. If required, modify an existing translation in the Translated Text field for the relevant language.
  4. If you are creating a new translation, create a new record and specify the required language in the Language Code field. Enter the translation for the language in the Translated Text field.
  5. Save the information.
