Define Derived Units from a Base Unit
Explanation
Use this activity to view the list of predefined or user-defined units derived
from a selected base unit, or to enter new user-defined units that are derived
from a selected base unit. This optional task is to be performed by a system
administrator or equivalent person.
Prerequisites
This activity has the following prerequisites:
- For predefined base units, the Used in Application check box must be selected
in the ISO Code Usage window.
- User-defined base units
must be exist in the
Unit Relationships/Base window.
System Effects
As a result of this activity:
- If viewing derived units, all units derived from a selected base unit will be
displayed.
- If creating a user-defined unit, a new user-defined unit derived from
the selected base unit will be created.

Procedure
To perform this activity, follow these steps:
- Open the Unit Relationships
window and click the
Derived
tab.
- In the Base Unit Code field, query for the base unit whose derived
units you want to add to or view.
The Unit Code field displays all units derived from the selected base
unit and the Factor field displays the conversion values for each of the
derived units.
- To enter a new derived unit for the base unit, click in the
Unit Code field and create a new record.
- In the Unit Code field, enter a unique name.
- In the Description field, enter a description.
- In the Factor field, accept the default of 1 or enter a new value.
- Save the changes.
