Create Design Object Terminals and Wires
Explanation
This activity is used to create terminals and wires for a design object.
Whether a design object will have terminals or wires, is configured on the class
level in Class Properties. For example, a design object class for Junction Boxes
is configured to have terminals, and a class for cables is configured to have
wires.
Prerequisites
Design objects of a design object class configured with the appropriate class
property must exist.
System Effects
Design object terminals and wires are defined.

Procedure
- Open the Design Object Terminals
window.
- Click New.
- In the Plant field, enter the name of the plant of the design
object for which
terminals are being created. Use the List of Values to select a suitable
plant. The default plant if defined in the
User Settings
dialog box,
will be displayed by default.
- In the Object field, enter the identity of the
design object for which the terminal is being created. Use the List of
Values to select a suitable design object.
- In the Sort Order field, enter an integer to indicate the order of display for the terminal. The
sort order is later used to decide in what order the terminals will be displayed
in windows.
- In the Terminal field, enter the identity of the terminal. This
value should be unique for a design object.
The following values may be entered optionally:
- In the Type field, enter the type of the terminal. If
the terminals are not of the same type, they can be differentiated here. For
example, every third terminal has a different color (yellow/green) or
different size (thicker).
- In the Group field, enter the group of the terminal. Terminals
may be grouped within a terminal group (e.g., double terminals or triple
terminals).
- In the Connection Level field, enter the
terminal's connection code level. For example, you might have the following
connection levels: JB (junction box), IO (I/O card), CCF (cross connection
field side) or 1 (field), 2 (first connection point after field), 3 (second
connection point after field). The connection level is used when you
automatically generate drawings.
- In the Potential field, enter the potential for
the terminal (e.g., +, -, +24, 0). This will represent the coordinate (Y) on
the automatic generation of circuit diagrams. An update of potential will
cause a recursive update of the potential through connected wires and
terminals.
- In the Max No of Wires field, enter the
highest number of connected wires allowed for the terminal.
- Click Save.
- Open the Design Object Wires
window.
- Click New.
- In the Plant field, enter the name of the plant of the design
object for which
the wire is being created. Use the List of Values to select a suitable
plant. The default plant if defined in the
User Settings
dialog box,
will be displayed by default.
- In the Cable No field, enter the ID of the cable for which
the wire is being created. Use the List of Values to select a cable.
- In the Sort Order field, enter an integer to indicate the
order of display for the wire. The sort order is later used to decide in
what order the wires will be displayed in windows.
- In the Wire field, enter the identity of the wire. This value
should be unique within a cable.
The following values may be entered optionally:
- In the From Object field, enter the ID of the
From Object connected at the From end of the wire. Use the List of Values to
select a From Object.
- In the From Terminal field, enter the terminal connected
at the To end of the wire. Use the List of Values to select a terminal.
- In the From Label field, enter the
description for the From end of the connection.
- In the To Object field, enter the ID of the To
Object connected at the To end of the wire. Use the List of Values to select
a To Object.
- In the To Terminal field, enter the terminal connected at
the To end of the wire. Use the List of Values to select a terminal.
- In the To Label field, enter the description for the To
end of the connection.
- Click Save.
